Game Introduction: What is Splatoon?

Splatoon is not a traditional shooter. Instead of shooting bullets, you will be shooting colorful ink in large, fast-paced team matches. Pick a side, get a weapon, then head straight into battle with your team – get as much of the map covered with your team's ink as possible. The goal is to cover the arena with your team's color or control specific zones to win the match!

Players can switch between two forms:

Human form – Use an array of ink weapons to shoot at enemies and lay down coverage in your team's color.
Inkling form – You can switch into a squid, allowing you to swim through your ink at high speeds, hide from enemies, climb walls, and recharge your ink faster.

The movement mechanics and transformations allow for a level of Splatoon gameplay not seen in other games - quick, exhilarating, and incredibly fun.

Gameplay Overview: Turf Wars, Splat Zones & More

Turf War Mode

The staple of all staples! Splatoon is the original Turf War, where two teams of 4 (8 players total) any possible way, to ink the most territory with their team’s ink. The team that has the most turf (inked surface area) at the end of the match wins!

Be creative with your strategizing
Using rollers, builders, and chargers, ink your way into territory
Stay together to block the enemy team and capture turfs.

Splat Zones Mode

Now take your competitive play to the next tier. Teams must cover designated zones around the map with the same colored ink. Hold a zone for a determined amount of time to earn a victory — just be aware there’s going to be some resistance in a Splat Zone!

Expect radical exchanges of domination over territory
Expect the play to be continuous, back and forth, with no stops!
Great for the type of player who enjoys competitive play.

Unique Gameplay Features

Arms and legs are worth options for customized character loadouts
Super jumps and super modalities for surprises in surprise elements
Locations and maps allow for strategies beyond just shooting, climbing, sneaking around walls, and surprising someone from elevated ground
Quick play or long matches/pack in 8 players in one match. These matches go fast!

Ideally, you'd be prepared to paint or be painted!
